Some user created highlights

For those of you that don’t follow the forum, you are missing out on a lot of great stuff. Lucky for you, I am going to highlight three of my favorite things that have popped up.

First in the spotlight, we have Silb’s Lugaru total conversion: Lugaru Temple. This replaces the original campaign in Lugaru and puts you in control of Turner’s brother Sven. For screenshots and instructions on how to install it, see the original thread. Yes, with virtually no help from David, Silb managed to reverse engineer Lugaru’s mapping code and breathe new life into Lugaru. Silb’s campaign is longer, features a relatively complicated story line involving multiple controllable characters, and really pushes the Lugaru engine to the limit, with things that you wouldn’t think possible in a third party map.

Secondly, we have Vib Rib’s incredible Lugaru web comic.

I have mirrored the first seven installments on the Wolfire site here but I also suggest you read the original thread to get all of the discussion and background.

And finally, we have another contribution from Silb just a few days old: Lugaru the Musical. It needs no further introduction.

I never really did take the times to read over the forums and get involved, but seeing this might be my start. But then again, laziness will most likely get the better of me.

    Awesome blog post Jeff. :)

And Omnikill, the forums are awesome, even if you don’t post, theres a lot of good stuff there.

  3. MacWiggy Says:

That’s hilarious. The comic strip, that is. The musical is mildly funny. you should try it with the “Mortal Kombat” theme.

    Fatality!

    Ahahahahahaha.

    Hahaha.

    Ha. :D

  5. MacWiggy Says:

By the way, will Lugaru 2 be a digital download, a CD/DVD, or a demo that requires a serial code? I would reccomend the second one, considering it’s most secure.

  6. Jeff Says:

Don’t worry about our security. Believe it or not, we actually know what we are doing. We actually have a fourth option that you will see later.

“Don’t worry about our security. Believe it or not, we actually know what we are doing.”
That’s why I reccomended it. If someone reccomended that Lugaru 2 should have laser-wolverines, would you get all angry at them? “We know what we’re doing! We have other options besides laser-wolverines!”

    “fourth”?

  8. Jeff Says:

There is just something about all of your comments that rubs me the wrong way. If anyone else made that comment I probably wouldn’t care, but knowing you, it annoyed me. It’s as if you believe that you know more about game development than us. And yes, if someone told us to include “laser-wolverines” in a patronizing manner, yes, I would be irritated.

To answer your previous question more thoroughly, we have something similar to Valve’s Steam system but completely integrated into Lugaru 2. You will hear about Wolfire.Net in a later blog post when it’s more complete.

Stuff like this is much more suited for the forums due to its non-linear nature, so we can discuss it more there if you want.

About the forum, it won’t let me log in. I made an account, and now it says I used an incorrect password. EVERY TIME.

  10. Jeff Says:

I just looked at your account profile and you misspelled your email address, so you never got the confirmation email. I activated your account manually though. Try again.

  11. MacWiggy Says:

    thanks. it works now,

I downloaded Lugaru for the first time a few weeks ago, and I have been saying the same thing over and over again since then.

“This is exactly what I would do if I were to develop a game.”

I have annoyed my wife and friends numerous times with this statement and my fixation on playing Lugaru. I have recently finished a software project, writing broker’s job into code. I have a “robot” day trading algorithm making money for me and my clients now. Years ago I was really intent on becoming a game developer, I intend on getting back into it, and now I have the time to do so.

I have two questions for you guys.

    1) Is there any way investment cash could help you develop your game any faster?

    2) What kind of developer or contributions do you need to get Lugaru 2 finished ahead of schedule?

    These questions are closely related.

I wrote a genre back story, music and created models a few years ago for a game concept similar to this one except the characters were in a rather detailed space genre, and it included other lower mammalia.

Is there any way to make “demo” contributions to your project?

  13. Jeff Says:

What exactly do you mean by demo contributions? Send me an email at jeff@wolfire.com and we can talk more.

  14. Xegrot Says:

Heh, the Lugaru web comic and the musical were hilarious! Go Turner in your classy tuxedo! I don’t mean to sound irretating or anything (I swear), but how is the combat coming along for the game? Any new improvements to look forward to? Or is the combat still in it’s early stages?

  15. Jeff Says:

Unfortunately there has not been a lot of progress recently.

  16. Xegrot Says:

    Oh, ok. Just wondering.

  17. Cupcake Says:

Well, the musical gave me a helpful way to finish off the Alpha Wolf. And yes, I CERTAINLY trust you guys, but whatever that fourth option is, I hope it works with an older G5! :D
