I always make character studies based on skeletal sketches. If the proportions are right on skeletal level, it's easy to keep it that way.
how did you do the third one?
I emphasized the contours with filters after deleting the mess around the character. Then I drew the shadows with a 40%-opaque brush. Then I drew the light with a 30%-opaque brush. The rest is details.

One major thing is to put a cast shadow in-- although I worked a couple hours on the shaded version, and I do do this for a living.

The main thing is to keep practicing, and to practice the right things.

i wrote:oh and btw, thats not his real head its a mask
because to join the jackels you have to prove your stength by killing a wolf-like creature (which is namless right now), and use its head to make a mask and use its fur and hide to make shin pads (i would do more but i thought thins up when i was almost finished) then use the scales on its tail to make some sort of trophey
i just found i pic i drew ealier in my maths book which could be tha wolf-like thing ill try upload somtime

"looks really profesional like" (mmmmnope)

"Artistically I much prefer David's version" (Wow, you're really an expert, I suppose. Now... What does artistically mean in this statement? Nothing?)

...what the hell? I suck hehe
It's REALLY late to say something now, but whenever I read this topic I feel bad because it's like 3 pages of ripping on people who thought David's shading was fanboyism.

I wasn't being bias I thought David had really good feedback on shading I thought it was more professional this way but I'm no artist that's just what I liked alright that's all.

Clock work is awesome but it's too abstract for me, I think I see where the eyes are but it's like.. it's crazy man.
