Epic First Person Mod REMASTERED b3
Mod Installation Guide
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=40251
F key toggles perspective, just like the original, and lightning is mapped to G.
On a lazy Saturday, I found the Epic First Person Mod. I installed it, and it was really great, but I thought I could do better. So I tried. Now with support for beta 2, The Epic First Person Mod REMASTERED!!! Wooo!
I made it handle more like a modern FPS, so you can move backwards without the camera spazzing out, and clamped the look angles so that you don't see through yourself. You can look through walls that are at the right angle, but don't tell anyone about that.
Special thanks to Korban3, whose code I worked from to make this and who gave me permission to post this, and David, who helped me find the eyes on the character.
UPDATE: Don't expect updates. If you want me to update to a new version, just leave a comment on the thread and I should have it up within a day.

I have a bad feeling about this.
I mean you made great changes to it but...... It's hard to explain.

The hell are you talking about?rodeje25 wrote:I have a bad feeling about this.

Moving the mouse is still a bit jittery, but in general I feel that movement and combat works much better now. Running backwards looks a bit funny, since there is no animation for it, but that's obviously a different point.
Thanks for sharing!

Glad you enjoyed it! I will try to make a backwards animation, as it does look weird, and I will also try to make camera movement smoother. And rodeje, if you can tell me what you think is 'off', I'll try to fix it!EPR89 wrote:The hell are you talking about?rodeje25 wrote:I have a bad feeling about this.

I mean that if he didn't ask korban it would be like taking over someone else's mod changing some things republishing it under your own name and just give a thanks to the original creator of the mod.EPR89 wrote:The hell are you talking about?rodeje25 wrote:I have a bad feeling about this.

He did credit Korban3.rodeje25 wrote:I mean that if he didn't ask korban it would be like taking over someone else's mod changing some things republishing it under your own name and just give a thanks to the original creator of the mod.EPR89 wrote:The hell are you talking about?rodeje25 wrote:I have a bad feeling about this.

I don't get what you are upset about.
Re: Epic First Person Mod (The second one) a208
I'm not upset.
But for instance if you made a game and somebody would just copy everything and make a few changes to it and then publish it under his own name and thank you for doing most of the work.
Would you be happy with that?

I actually did ask Korban3 if I could put my mod on the forum. He said, and I quote:rodeje25 wrote:I'm not upset.

My first post probably wasn't clear about it, so I'll update it now.Korban3 wrote:Kickass, go for it. I'll probably link to it from my mod anyways. People always go on that thread and complaining about it not being up to date, and I just haven't found the energy to work on anything.
Re: Epic First Person Mod (The second one) a208
It's also important to note that publishing a game is different from publishing a mod, especially in a community like this one.
If you publish a game you are trying to sell your copyrighted creation. A mod is a community created addition to the game that is not by itself protected in any way because it is not part of the product.
If someone changed my game a bit and publishes it as his own, that would be copyright infringement and could land that guy in jail for a long time.
If someone changed my mod a bit and published it as his own, he might get banned from some mod sites. It would be an asshole move, but that's about it. Unless the creator of the game supports me in some way I have no real way to prevent that person from stealing my mod.
In Minecraft I could understand someone being seriously upset about people re-publishing his mod with only minimal changes. Some people actually earn money over there by publishing mods through ad supported websites. The Overgrowth community works completely differently. The guys here publish mods for the community. Plus, we seem to have better manners. watergun127 asked for permission and credited Korban3. That last part alone is enough to show that he has good intentions.

I just saw that he asked so we can just close this argument
Re: Epic First Person Mod (The second one) a208
I get two error messages when I open a level:
Think you know what the problem is or why nobody else seems to have it?
Code: Select all
Compiling void HandleAIEvent(AIEvent)
ERR: enemycontrol.as (323, 10) '_damaged' is not declared
ERR: enemycontrol.as (323, 10) Duplicate switch case
Could not compile script: Data/Scripts/enemycontrol.as

Uninstallation:
Replace ‘aschar.as’ with ‘aschar_original.as’, and rename it to ‘aschar.as’
WTF does this MEAN!

Re: Epic First Person Mod (The second one) a209
Sorry, that was a bit unclear. To uninstall, take the 'aschar.as' for the mod, and remove it from the Scripts folder. Then, take the 'aschar_original.as' file from the folder you downloaded, put it into Your Overgrowth Folder/Scripts, and change its name to 'aschar.as'
